While I was sleeping
the dream came again
old bells were ringing
a song with no name
the song had been ringing
so long deep inside
for so long it had been ringing
that I'd become hypnotised
and someone said "snap out of it!"
but I did not hear
and the song went on ringing
and my mind knew no fear

RATS
04:30
|
|||
Rats and cats and the prison that's inside:
some things ring true
some things ring sour
some things run rings around you
you'd like a change of scene
but you can't change your heart can you?
and a new scene will soon be tainted
by some old stain seeping through
for you cannot change your path
quite as easily as you might want to
rats in cages running wheels
rats in mazes, rats in walls
cats patrol the nights curfew
rats and cats and the prison that's inside of you

ONE STEP AT A TIME
06:38
|
|||
When tomorrow comes
when yesterday falls
the past is never past
the future comes
but the present stalls
equilibrium
threatened on a whim
safety in routine
gracefully obscene
where the bitten hide
nursing wounds that weep
crushing underfoot
embers in the soot
and you move on
one step at a time
then to trip up
tangled in vines
there's no master plan
take it as it comes
as the river runs
as the river runs
push that load uphill
drag that ball and chain
river is in flood
blocking up the drains
and you move on
one step at a time
then to trip up
tangled in vines

ONE DAY BABY
05:41
|

One day baby you’re gonna land on your feet
One day baby you’re gonna never be beat
One day baby you’re gonna shine
nto the minds of the dark-souled kinds
And make them weep.. (make them weep)

MEMES
02:59
|

Your facebook friends post trite philosophies
some are positive
some cynical
some are funny
some Greek tradgedies
some will make you feel real empathy
still you're sitting all alone
scrolling through the entries on the screen of your phone
trying to breach the gap
and maybe post some crap yourself (if you dare)
who cares what people think
were you born to grow or shrink?

THE HOUSE (AS IT STANDS)
05:35
|
|||
the creaking of the floors
the bedsprings squeak and moan
of people in your life who haunt your every bone
the ghosts of xmas past keep clambering your stairs
to sneak on all you say and reinforce your fears
the loves, the lusts the thighs that ever filled your view
the tangled bush of lies your tongue got drawn into
unwritten rules and laws of how you should behave
and where you're gonna sleep within this house of knaves
the fat cat sleeps above on velvet cushions fine
the shuffling and downcast beneath the floors recline
their mouths agape for crumbs that might fall through the cracks
should those who glut above let trickle-downs be facts
I wrote the book myself, but someone else wrote me
wrote me writing "the house" in quaint calligraphy
but live with it I must, beyond my roof and walls
cos outside is the house – it’s all the fucking world
At sunset's cue I drew the moth-stained curtains from my eyes
through misted glass gazed out upon the pink and salmon skies
a pigeon flew up to my ledge – it bore a note by beak
that read: "don't tread on flowerbeds and mind the shit you speak"
an architect I knew once sat me down to tea
and told me that my house was quite illusionary
she said "your mind is set on paradigms of pain
although your house is straight its bent inside your brain"
All metaphors are flawed they only fluff about
and language as a tool does well to conjure doubt
its best if seeking truth to listen to the tune
just listen to my song, it’s true.. I wrote it on the moon.

A FREE AGENT
08:00
|
|||
Love outside your head
the wounds that left you dry
love outside your head
the land and sea and sky
the animals that fly or swim
is there any love
or is it all chemistry?
the eagle eats the dove
the dove it eats the flea
the flea in turn bites me
Am I in denial
should I let tomorrow be
let the chemistry...
MC squared equals E
leave behind conditioning
and be "free"
I extend my arms to embrace
a loss of self control
and to go feral
off my face
to become mere chemistry
to burn out like a meteor
and set my poisons free
pollute
transmute
a free agent

NEEDS
06:56
|
|||
No place in the sun
Blind face of the moon
Turntable spin me a dancing tune
Around and around in a dervish whirl
Can’t tell pebble from a pearl
Treading water In the fear you might drown
But when you stop will the walls come down?
And what’ll you see there Beyond the façade
A world made to order And sold by the yard
Need a new day I need a new start
Need a new brain Need a new heart
Need a new mind Need a new kind
Shedding your skin from your old behind.

WET AT THE CORNERS
03:20
|
|||
When the door won't open
when the window's iron barred
when the ship is sinking
breached by hidden ice bergs
watch the ceiling tilting
carpets getting wet at the corners
life-boats won't inflate
and the captain has escaped with the first mate
that's when...
oh what can you do!
but keep on playing that song you wrote
the very best..
the one you knew
would save you all along
so that at least you'll drown
knowing who you are...

JIGSAW PIECES WON'T FIT
08:05
|
|||
Square pegs in a round hole
Round logs up a square pole
Spare legs in a mound
Oh Jigsaw pieces won’t fit
Who can you connect to?
Lust is there but the love is not
Or love is there but the lust is not
Or trust was there but rust is setting in..
Square eggs in a round bowl
Round heads up a square pole
Red heads at the school ball
Oh Jigsaw pieces won’t fit
Who can you connect to?
