THE WORLD AS IT STANDS
01:46
|
|||
There’s the sea and its waves
And a zillion grains of sand
There’s the world of your dreams
And the world as it stands
And there’s everything you don’t know
And will never know
And it’s all a bit daunting if you think about it too hard
You see a bird in the tree
And watch the cat in the yard
And you drink beer and eat food and defecate
A zillion times everyday

Tick tock tick tock
One oclock comes round
Two oclock comes round
Three oclock comes round…

MOULD
02:24
|
|||
What is mould?
I believe it starts as spores
And it comes to grow in places where there aint no natural cause
All it takes is moisture and a private place to grow
Like on your favourite vinyl records –
(Such as? oh you wouldn’t want to know)
But believe me its depressing when you feel the rot of time
Hear that needle grind through dirt and dust and dehydrated slime

INTERNAL TRUTHS
04:02
|
|||
People who are crazy
Must they always stay insane?
Racing on a treadmill
Scrubbing at some stain
Battling to conform to
Shapes they cannot be
Never holding true to
The internal truths they see
Once I was a rich man
Now I am so poor
Once I was a visitor
Now I’m shown the door
Once I was a seeker
Now I’m all sought out
Once I was a cheater
Now I’ve straightened out

POLTERGEIST
03:01
|
|||
The books on the shelf
they stand shoulder to shoulder
and whisper silently
they've all been there so long
that they're starting to moulder
- verbosely
but in your house of no sounds something creaks
you sense a spirit that's yearning to speak
the shelves are shaking, the books are on fire
the couch is jumping, the piano's hot-wired
Poltergeist: a restless spirit that wants set free
you'd like to shake the world
and leave it to solve a new mystery

SONG OF THE SEASONS
04:20
|
|||
By the light of the day
by the fire of the sun
by the breath of the wind
by the mists of a grey morning
Well there is sustenance
you walk tall you stand strong
but you also recall that it can't last for long
cos you've seen summer fall
and you've watched autumn rise
and you've seen winter sink
before spring can reprise
and you need to be brave
meet the world face to face
and to challenge your foe
to make peace with your space
but I cannot explain
what this song is about
its not quite what it seems
and its plagued by a doubt
By the light of the day..etc

SO THERE
02:09
|
|||
Everyday
When nothing comes to change
You’re still you
you’re still inside yourself
In your head on your body in your room in your house in your town in your country
on your planet
And that’s it baby
And you’re stuck with your past
And your arse
And everything you can’t change
And you know that life is strange and terrible
But with beauty everywhere… oh yeah….
So there

CRAZY ZEN
05:27
|
|||
What do I know baby? And what did I know then
What do I know baby? Maybe crazy Zen
And what do you know sunshine What do you know now?
What do you know sunshine? Keep on shining anyhow
Nobody whether rich or poor Or wise or dumb can know
And the heroes will keep trying But a chasm gapes below
And the highs are very high But the lows are far below

MIND CLEANSING SONG
03:31
|
|||
Take away
Oh take away
take away your mind
wipe the slate
and clean the plate
evaporate the slime
Take away oh take away
take away the time
scrap the plot
forget the lot
empty.. blank... sublime...

THAT MAN IN THE MOON
06:03
|
|||
There was a man I knew
He had a point of view
He had his sights set true
If push should come to shove
And he was proud and rude
He held his ground and hewed
That moon to fit his mood
A sculptor of the tides
Oh that man in the moon
Will never come down
He hides underground
And he pulls the strings that go
To the good earth below
Wild night come fuck me up again
In waking light the nightmare does not cease
All round the town the urban rednecks howl their ridiculing cat-calls
at the doll-faced elephant man

THE HOUSE (as it stood)
07:30
|
|||
the creaking of the floors
the bedsprings squeak and moan
of people in your life who haunt your every bone
the ghosts of xmas past keep clambering your stairs
to sneak on all you say and reinforce your fears
the loves, the lusts the thighs that ever filled your view
the tangled bush of lies your tongue got drawn into
unwritten rules and laws of how you should behave
and where you're gonna sleep within this house of knaves
the fat cat sleeps above on velvet cushions fine
the shuffling and downcast beneath the floors recline
their mouths agape for crumbs that might fall through the cracks
should those who glut above let trickle-downs be facts
I wrote the book myself, but someone else wrote me
wrote me writing "the house" in quaint calligraphy
but live with it I must, beyond my roof and walls
cos outside is the house – it’s all the fucking world
At sunset's cue I drew the moth-stained curtains from my eyes
through misted glass gazed out upon the pink and salmon skies
a pigeon flew up to my ledge – it bore a note by beak
that read: "don't tread on flowerbeds and mind the shit you speak"
an architect I knew once sat me down to tea
and told me that my house was quite illusionary
she said "your mind is set on paradigms of pain
although your house is straight its bent inside your brain"
All metaphors are flawed they only fluff about
and language as a tool does well to conjure doubt
its best if seeking truth to listen to the tune
just listen to my song, it’s true.. I wrote it on the moon.

HAUL AWAY
02:18
|
|||
Watcha gonna do when you fall apart?
Are you gonna fall apart?
Love yourself and love the day
Love the world and all who play
Heave heave haul away
Its easy to say …but its hard to do
Its easy to say … but its impossible

WAIT AND SEE
04:06
|
|||
Sentimental
Detrimental
Plain old “mental”
Right out of the tree
Yet hold a mirror to the world
And tho things read backwards
They still look the same essentially
But it’s in the murmurs,
In the squirmers
In the whispers,
In the callous eyes
And you can’t slide it
Merely ride it out
And keep your chin up
as disguise
Cos you know
Head to heel
Fairy tales must come real
Or what’s the point In battling on
Turn to the last page and see…
Were you wrong? Wait and see…
but the last page can’t be seen!

17. |
||||
There is a land behind the door
and there's a cloud beneath the floor
and if you were to make things change
then the furniture I should rearrange
close your eyes to open doors
neath orange rinds find apple cores
there under each disguise to find
the same needs that shape our every kind
cupboard doors hide ghosts and ghouls
that broke those eggs that laid the rules
they hatch again despite your will
to fry themselves on overkill
now then:
go gird your loins and walk inside
into that shadow vast and wide
and in some dark corner cowering there
you ll meet that wound that bore a fear
there are other lands behind the door
and behind them?
many more... many more

PILGRIM
03:16
|
|||
Can you make it through
another day or another night
can you make it through tommorrow
and onward off toward the light
and will you walk forever
walk until your shoes are ruins
until your feet are stumps
until your voice has lost its tune
and will you be believed if
if you reach the other side
no of course you will not be believed
nd you'll never reach the other side
